A harmonious design of tranquil neutrals and timeless functionality, our latest Kitchens We Love instalment is the vision of Jojo Barr, Founder and Creative Director of House Nine Design.

Celebrated for her authentic and liveable style of decor, where classic elements merge with modern touches, this calm-meets-practical family kitchen effortlessly captures the appeal of House Nine Design's aspirational interiors.

The inspiration

The true heart of the home, the farmhouse-esque room draws inspiration from the lively lifestyle of the family residing there. With three children, a cat, and a new puppy, creating a space that offered a refined yet relaxed feel was at the forefront.

An abundance of storage was an intentional design decision to keep the space free from clutter, ensuring every kitchen essential had a place to call home.

After much discussion around colour, a neutral palette was chosen to evoke a sense of serenity within the room. Achieving a subtle play on a two-tone scheme, a rich dark timber island brings contrast to the surrounding off white walls and cabinetry. From the wall tiles to the wooden ceiling, an array of textures brings definition to the kitchen.

Thoughtfully adorned with brass accents, Jojo adds, "The kitchen strikes the perfect balance between elegant and understated, yet warm and inviting. It’s a scheme designed to evolve gracefully as the children grow.”

“As a central hub connected to the garden, playroom, and dining area, the space needed to feel open, timeless, and highly functional for everyday family life”, reflects Jojo.

Opting for our Colmore cabinet handles and knobs to dress the joinery in our polished brass unlacquered finish, the hardware channels a lived-in appeal. Showcasing impeccably smooth contours with subtle concave details, the pieces add a touch of elegance without feeling too formal.

"As part of a busy family home, the Colmore collection offers both visual interest and a tactile experience that feels warm and inviting - perfectly in line with the timeless yet characterful feel we aimed to achieve,” notes Jojo.

Specifying our solid brass Colmore hardware throughout the space, Jojo shares, "We love the playful design language of this collection - its soft edges and the martini glass-inspired silhouette bring a sense of refinement with just the right hint of personality. When choosing hardware for joinery, we consider the material, finish, scale, and how the design interacts with the cabinetry and the wider room, ensuring it’s both functional and beautifully cohesive."
