From the intricate layered millwork to the grand architectural arches and rich aged brass finishes, each detail of the timeless design presents a lived-in feel, abundant with both heritage charm and quiet elegance.

Designing the whole home as a new build project, Jean’s philosophy is centred around staying focused on the overall architectural mission. She shares, “Beautiful images appear on our devices every day, and there is a temptation to incorporate all the things that resonate with us. But, here is where we must put it to the test: does it align with our overall vision, or is it something we admire? We must rigorously put our design ideas through the alignment test at all times to achieve a cohesive aesthetic.”

Quintessentially styled, the heart of the home is an airy open-plan combined kitchen, dining and living space.

Featuring a cased opening that defines the soft two-tone space from the living area, duck egg blue cabinetry by Stoffer Home Cabinetry is paired with natural oak and luxurious brass accents breathe life into the design.

For the dining area, smoked mirrored glass and cremone bolts add luxurious detail to the coffee bar cabinetry, while classic stripe upholstery decorates the banquette seating.

Throughout the home, each room flows beautifully whilst achieving its own individuality. To create this relatability, Jean says, “Settling on an overall palette, general millwork design and staying consistent with specific proportions for the home allows each room to have a unified framework while allowing individual expression in each space. We love using light fixtures and colour to make each room unique.”

Creating a sense of harmonious symmetry, typical of the Greek Revival style, the neutral bathroom is a serene affair with a freestanding bath framed by an archway and cabinetry to either side.

To get the look, Jean shares, “We came up with this idea of building a wall in between the sink and tub area. It provided little nooks on each side of the bath, which defined spaces for a makeup area on one side and linen storage on the other. I love working with rooms that just start as rectangles and become interesting, unique spaces.”

Subtly finished with mixed metals that add depth, warmth and a quiet elegance to the space, including the hardware, lighting and tapware, Jean says, “I think this is a secret to achieving timeless design. Mixing finishes evokes a collected-over-time feeling. When everything matches, it suggests everything was purchased and installed at the same time. Mixing suggests a gradual curation and brings to mind longevity and history.”

Opting predominantly for our unique aged brass finish, Jean notes, “This finish is extraordinarily beautiful. It has the colour and patina of well-worn brass from period homes. The collections we chose for this project fit perfectly in the aesthetic. Bromwich is elegant in its simplicity, whilst the Cotswold collection is understated and graceful.”
