Old-world Modern Renovation

Channelling an old-world modern feel throughout, from the open-plan kitchen to the library and primary bathroom, explore each intriguing space with us.

Inspired by a feeling, Dagan shares, "I wanted the home to feel like it had been there for many years; a historic European feel that marries old-world charm with modern touches and modern functionality."

In the picturesque open-plan kitchen, a Calacatta Monet island draws the eye, dressed with a hand-carved soapstone sink and solid brass fixtures. Framed by arched ceiling beams and stone detailing, the setting is a juxtaposition of organic beauty and refined style.

Reminiscing on the renovation process, Dagan advises, “Be adaptable, as sometimes, unique designs and spaces may present themselves within a project. Trust yourself in what you like and don't be afraid to take design risks.”

Evoking an all-encompassing feeling of comfort, Dagan’s library interior pairs rich browns with buttery leathers and natural woods to form an inviting reading nook. Elements like the studded Chesterfield armchair add a touch of traditional character, whilst the crisp lines of the joinery and window seat offer a modern perspective for balance.

Accents of blue appear frequently throughout the interior; however, in the laundry room, the colour anchors the design with a feature wall statement of varying azure blue tiles in scallop shapes; a thoughtful nod to San Diego’s Pacific coastline.

Led by the authentic beauty of exposed wooden beams, the primary bathroom in Dagan’s home is a vision of rustic elegance with wooden cabinetry and brass fixtures bringing character to the warm white canvas, formed by hand-troweled Roman clay plaster walls.

For the oak bathroom cabinetry, diamond inlay details offer contrast to the brass hardware. Speaking of the pieces, Dagan says, “The Colmore collection is a brilliant mix of soft old-world design with the slightest contemporary lines. I also chose a living brass finish as I wanted the material to change over time and get the wonderful patina that solid brass provides.”
