Renovations We Love: Casa Salsone

Renovations We Love: Casa Salsone - Armac Martin

The next instalment in our ‘Renovations We Love’ series is located in Melbourne, Australia and showcases Casa Salsone, a beautiful 1920s weatherboard home that has recently undergone a beautiful renovation.

The House

Carla started the project in March 2020, having bought the house six years previously. Carla says, “the kitchen, laundry and bathroom were last renovated in the early 2000s so were outdated and badly designed, updating these spaces formed part of a whole-home renovation.” Period features such as the beautiful stained-glass entry are carefully nurtured, and the completed home elegantly complements those traditional 1920s weatherboard features.

The Kitchen

An incredible pendant chandelier from Lighting Collective creates a striking centrepiece to this light, bright kitchen. Carla has effortlessly combined cool white cabinetry with the warmth of wicker, wood and brass kitchen cabinet handles - clear references to her English kitchen inspirations. Carla notes: ‘ I took huge inspiration from traditional English kitchens like deVOL Kitchens and Humphrey Munson and America’s Studio McGee, who for me, nail a kitchen in terms of design and functionality.  Natural stone benchtops, brass taps, zellige tiles and custom shaker-style cabinets were completed with burnished brass cabinet knobs, pulls and latches adding warmth and texture to what could have been a fairly monochromatic space.”

The Laundry Room

Intentionally beautiful and functional, this perfectly formed laundry room flows seamlessly from the kitchen, mirroring the same classic palette. Burnished brass cabinet knobs provide an elegant companion to the well-designed drying rack whilst the pearlescent tiles bounce light playfully around the room.

The Bathroom

Echoing the combination of brass and marble seen throughout the house this chic bathroom contrasts geometric cabinet panelling with a 20s inspired circular mirror. Brass, wall-mounted taps marry cohesively with the burnished brass cupboard door handles creating a bathroom that is every bit as aesthetically inspiring as the rest of this gorgeous home.
