Join us as we take a step inside the spectacular renovation of a family home in Scottsdale, Arizona, by interior design firm, Lively Haus.
Founder of Lively Haus, Michelle Bulriss’ signature style of neutral, textural patterns accented with pops of colour can be found throughout every room in her Feathersong Project. The result is a sequence of elevated spaces that are not only beautifully curated, but fit for modern living.
Nestled in the heart of Scottdale, this family home has undergone a full renovation, with Michelle drawing inspiration from the house itself, taking influence from the surrounding mountain views and original architecture – a timeless blend of Spanish and Old World influences.
Rather than straying from these roots, Michelle’s goal was to honour them by delivering a classic, timeless aesthetic with a modern, elevated refresh.

The family kitchen
The family kitchen
Throughout the expansive family kitchen, every selection was made with intention, from the natural stone materials and curved furniture layered with rich textiles and lime plaster walls.
Speaking of the design, Michelle shares: “A beautiful yet functional kitchen always begins with customisation- tailoring the space to the client’s daily needs and routines. Truly understanding how they live allows the layout, flow, and functionality to be designed with intention and purpose.
“From there, thoughtful material choices including natural stone, colour, and texture, bring the space to life—and adding brass wherever possible is always a guiding principle in my designs, introducing warmth, character, and a timeless layer of refinement.”
Throughout the kitchen, Arabescato honed marble countertops adorn the finely detailed custom cabinetry painted in Sherwin Williams’ Honed Soapstone, a nod to Michelle’s signature use of colour.
The cabinetry is adorned with our Barwick Cabinet Handles and Barwick T-bar Handles in our aged brass (BEL) finish, adding warmth and depth to the cabinetry design. Michelle notes: “I loved the distinctive linear ridges of the Barwick—it brought so much depth and texture to the kitchen, and when paired with the backplate, it truly became a showstopper.”

The prep kitchen
The prep kitchen
Whilst serving as a practical space for preparing and cleaning up after meals, the design of the dedicated prep kitchen is just as considered as the main family kitchen.
The careful location of appliances maximises all available space, whilst the custom millwork painted in Sherwin Williams Rare Gray is paired with Taj Mahal honed marble and glazed metro wall tiles in a soft, comforting shade of greige.
Continuing Michelle’s guiding principle of using brass to add warmth and depth, throughout the scullery Michelle paired our Queslett Cup Pulls and Queslett Cabinet Knobs with our Kingsheath Appliance Pulls, layering complementary profiles and styles to suit each type of cabinetry.
Michelle notes: “The Queslett cup pulls and knobs felt like a thoughtful return to the original design intent—rooted in classic style, yet elevated with a refined, modern sensibility.”
Adding a functional yet visually impactful display to the back kitchen, our brass shelf brackets, also in our aged brass (BEL) finish, were chosen to create the perfect place to display favourite kitchen essentials, including glassware and storage.

The coffee station

The cosy coffee corner features cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore's Forest Floor, with the olive green shade offset by the same soft yet impactful Arabescato honed marble found throughout the main kitchen.
The earthy cabinetry is layered with an intricate tile splashback and decadent wallpaper to create a functional space that also provides the opportunity for a calm moment of relaxation and reflection.
Creating what Michelle describes as “balance and cohesion” with the main kitchen, our Barwick cabinet knobs and pull handles were again chosen to add a touch of timeless elegance.
